Increasing the efficiency of using waste that can produce energy in the logistics sector

Starting 23/05/2014, Expert Consulting SRL developed in partnership with the National Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production and Sustainable Energy Cluster in Romania - ROSENC, the project entitled "Increasing efficiency of using waste that can produce energy in the logistics sector," co -funded by the European Regional Development Fund under Economic Competitiveness Sectoral Operational Programme 2007-2013, Priority Axis 1 "An innovative and eco-efficient production" , Key Area of ​​intervention 1.3 "sustainable development of entrepreneurship" 1.3.1 Operation " Development of Business Support Structures of national and international interest. "

The project is part of the integrated package approved for the pole of competitiveness "National Competitiveness Pole in Promoting Modern Manufacturing Principles for Implementing Green Economy - MEDGreen".

The total value of the project is 1,132,068.00 lei, of which reimbursable financial assistance is 843,200.00 lei.

The overall objectives of the project are:

- Investigation of waste market with high energy value , supporting pole members and the research projects by facilitating access to accurate information on the amount of waste from logistics firms or firms with an important logistics component;

- Raising awareness among pole members and economic environment about the methods used for resource efficiency and waste management and best practices;

- Increasing the capacity of pole members and economic environment by creating specific skills and knowledge needed to identify and implement effective measures to support enterprises to eco-innovate.

The specific objectives are:

- Setting up the basic framework for effective waste management approach that can be used in energy production obtained in the logistics sector in the West Region, applying the principle of ‘waste to energy’ by:

  • achieving a market study to identify the main waste logistics sector that can be used in energy production
  • creating a web platform that contains waste producers in the logistics sector

- Develop a guide on improving the quality of the logistics processes;

- Development of minimum 4 quality improvement processes in the logistics sector and at least 4 courses, one in each of the fields of : clean production, waste management, change management, 5S;

- Ensure a minimum of 200 hours of consulting assistance in obtaining funds for the development of logistics companies and promoting international partnerships through transfer of best practice at European level and support for at least 4 projects in the field;

- Raising awareness among the companies in the logistics field on the competitive advantages included in the right approach of the principle waste to energy.

Relevant activities in order to achieve objectives:

- Market study to identify the main waste in logistics sector that can be used in energy production;

- Creating a web platform containing: waste producers in the logistics sector and those who have a minimum of 30%  logistics activities in the business process  (storage, transport, packaging and handling) / waste types, coding based on the color code and determining the amount of waste produced , as well as a component of training and information on elements contained in the concept of green energy;

- Develop a guide on improving the quality of the logistics processes;

- Consulting in the development of complementary waste collection services and increasing labor productivity for companies in logistics field;

- Assistance in obtaining funds for the development of logistics companies both in terms of environmental protection and other types of programs that stalls on the type of business;

- Promote international partnerships through transfer of best practices between companies in the logistics field at European level;

- Information and awareness campaign on the types of waste that are suitable for energy production in the West Region.
